ضَخُمَ, [aor. ـُ {يَضْخُمُ},] (Ṣ, Mṣb, Ḳ,) inf. n. ضِخَمٌ, (Ṣ, Mṣb, TA,) accord. to the copies of the Ḳ ضَخْمٌ, but this is wrong, (TA,) and ضَخَامَةٌ, (Ṣ, Mṣb, Ḳ,) It, or he, was, or became, large, big, bulky, (Ṣ,* Mṣb, Ḳ,) or thick: (Ṣ:) or large in body, portly, or corpulent, and fleshy. (Ḳ.)

اضخم لَهُ (Ibn-ʼAbbád and Ḳ * voce أَدْلَفَ) [i. q. أَغْلَظَ لَهُ] † He spoke to him in a rough, harsh, coarse, rude, uncivil, or ungentle, manner. (TḲ in art. دلف.)

ضَخْمٌ (Ṣ, Mṣb, Ḳ) andضَخَمٌ↓ (Ḳ) andضُخَامٌ↓ (Ṣ, Ḳ) andأَضْخَمُ↓, (Ḳ,) which last is also with teshdeed of the final letter, (Ṣ, Ḳ,) i. e.أضْخَمُّ↓, in poetry, (Ṣ, TA,) for there is no word [properly] of the measure أَفْعَلُّ, and IJ mentions [evidently in the same sense,] like إِرْدَبٌّ [in measure], (TA,) Large, big, bulky, (Ṣ,* Mṣb, Ḳ,) or thick; (Ṣ;) applied to a thing (Mṣb, Ḳ) of any kind: (Ḳ:) or large in body, portly, or corpulent, and fleshy: (Ḳ:) pl. ضخَامٌ; (Ṣ, Mṣb;) like سِهَامٌ pl. of سَهْمٌ: (Mṣb:) fem. ضَخْمَةٌ, (Ṣ, Mṣb,) applied to a woman; (Mṣb;) pl. ضَخْمَاتٌ, with the خ quiescent, (Ṣ, Mṣb,) because it is an epithet. (Ṣ.) See also مِضْخَمٌ.

It was said to a man, إِنَّ لَكَ لَخَيْرٌ [app. meaning “Verily thou hast wealth”]; and he replied, أَجَلْ خَيْرٌ ضَخْمُ العُنُقِ [app., ‡ Yea, large wealth]; which is tropical. (TA.) And one says, لَهُ سُودَدٌ ضَخْمٌ † [He has great lordship or dignity], and شَرَفٌ ضَخْمٌ [great nobility], and شَأْنٌ َضَخْمٌ [great importance or rank]. (TA.)

ضَخْمٌ applied to a road means ‡ Wide. (Ḳ, TA.)

And applied to water, ‡ Heavy. (Ḳ, TA.)

ضِخَمَّةٌ, applied to a woman, ‡ Very wide, or wide and fat, (عَرِيضَةٌ أَرِيضَةٌ,) and soft, or tender. (Ḳ, TA.)

أَضْخَمُ: see ضَخْمٌ.

One says [also], هٰذَا أَضْخَمُ مِنْهُ [This is larger, bigger,, &c., than it, or he]. (Ṣ.)

أُضْخُومَةٌ A woman's عِظَامَة [or thing resembling a pillow], (Ṣ, Ḳ, TA,) with which she makes herself [to appear] large behind her waist [or posteriors]. (TA.)

مِضْخَمٌ, as an epithet applied to a chief, or lord, ‡ Noble, and portly, or corpulent; (Ḳ, TA;) as alsoضَخْمٌ↓. (TA.)

And, applied to a man, (TA,) ‡ Vehement in dashing himself against another; and in striking, or beating. (Ḳ, TA.)
