طَحَلَهُ, (Ṣ, O, Ḳ,) aor. ـَ
And طَحَلَهُ, (O, Ḳ,) aor. ـَ
طَحِلَ, (Ṣ, O, Mṣb, Ḳ,) aor. ـَ
And طَحِلَ, (Ḳ, TA,) inf. n. طَحَلٌ, (TA,) He was, or became, of the colour termed طُحْلَة; said of a wolf; and in like manner one says of a sheep or goat. (Ḳ, TA.)
And طَحِلَ said of water, (Ṣ, O, Ḳ,) as also طَهِلَ, (Ṣ, O,) It was, or became, corrupt, (Ṣ, O, Ḳ,) and altered in odour, (Ṣ, O,) or stinking, by reason of black mud. (Ḳ.)
طَحِلٌ
طَحِلٌ Having his طِحَال [or spleen] large, or enlarged: (Mṣb, Ḳ:) or having pain therein; as alsoمَطْحُولٌ↓; (O;) or this latter signifies having a complaint of the طِحَال; (TA;) or it signifies, (Ṣ,) or signifies also, (TA,) hit, or hurt, therein. (Ṣ, TA.)
And † [Spleenful, as meaning] angry. (IAạr, O, Ḳ.)
And Black: (O, Ḳ:) or of a dusky, or dingy, black colour; (IAạr, TA;) which, Z says, may be from [the colour of] the طِحَال, or from the meaning of الطُّحْلُبُ: (TA: [see also أَطْحَلُ:]) [for it signifies also]
Overspread with [the green substance termed طُحْلُب]; (IAạr, O, Ḳ;) or having much طحلب; applied to water: (AZ, IAạr,* O,* Mṣb, Ḳ:) and in like manner one says عَيْنٌ طَحِلَةٌ a source having much طحلب. (Mṣb.)
Also Full; (IAạr, O, Ḳ;) and soمَطْحُولٌ↓; applied to a vessel. (Ḳ.)
طُحْلَةٌ
طُحْلَةٌ A colour between that of dust and whiteness, (Ṣ, M, O, TA,) with a little blackness, like the colour of ashes: (M, TA:) or a colour between that of dust and blackness, with a little whiteness. (Ḳ.)
طِحَالٌ
طِحَالٌ [The spleen;] one of the intestines, (Mṣb,) or a piece of flesh, (Ḳ, TA,) well known, (Ṣ, O, Mṣb, Ḳ,) black, [or rather blackish,] and broad, in the belly of man and of others, on the left, cleaving to the side, (TA,) or cleaving to the ribs on the left side, (Zj in his “Khalk el-Insán,”) and said to pertain to every ruminant except the horse, which has none: (Mṣb: [a strange assertion, involving a double mistake; partly originating from a saying which will be mentioned in what follows:]) it is of the masc. gender: (Lḥ, TA:) the pl. is طُحُلٌ (Mṣb, Ḳ, TA) and أَطْحِلَةٌ and طِحَالَاتٌ. (Mṣb. [The second and third of these pls. appear to be rare; for it is said in the TA that the first is the only pl. form: and the last is anomalous.]) One says of the horse, لَا طِحَالَ لَهُ [lit. He has no spleen]; which is a metaphor, meaning ‡ he is quick, or swift, in his running; like as one says of the camel, لَا مَرَارَةَ لَهُ [lit. “he has no gall-bladder”]; meaning “he has no daring.” (Ṣ, O.)

أَطْحَلُ
أَطْحَلُ Of a colour like that of the طَحَال [or spleen], (Ḥam p. 96, and TA,) thus applied to a [garment of the kind called] كِسَآء, (TA,) and this is said to be the primary signification: or of the colour of ashes: (Ḥam ubi suprà:) or of the colour termed طُحْلَة expl. above, (Ṣ, O, Ḳ,) thus applied to a wolf, (O, Ḳ,) and thus the fem. طَحْلَآءُ applied to a sheep or goat (شَاةٌ), (Ḳ,) and the masc. applied to ashes (رَمَادٌ): (Ṣ, O:) also, (Ṣ, O,) and (O) طَاحِلٌ↓, (O, Ḳ, [in the CK طَحِلٌ, q. v.,]) applied to beverage or wine (شَرَابٌ), (Ṣ, O, Ḳ,) meaning not clear, (Ṣ, O,) or turbid; and soطَاحِلٌ↓ applied to dust (غُبَارٌ, Ḳ, TA, [in the CK غُرَابٌ,] and قَتَامٌ, O and TA). And one says فَرَسٌ أَخْضَرُ أَطْحَلُ meaning A horse whose خُضْرَة [i. e. dingy ash-colour, or dark dust-colour,] is overspread by a little yellowness. (Ṣ, O.)
