كَاد يَهَمْدُ مِنَ الجُوعِ ‡ He nearly perished of hunger. (L.)

هَمَدَت الرِّيحُ † The wind became still. (Mṣb.)
هَمَدَتِ الأَرْضُ, inf. n. هُمُودٌ, ‡ The land became lifeless, without herbage, without wood, and without rain. (L, Ḳ.)
هَمَدَ شَجَرُ الأَرْضِ ‡ The trees of the land became worn-out, or wasted; and perished. (L.)
هَمَدَتْ أَصْوَاتُهُمْ † Their voices became silent. (L.)

اهمد, inf. n. إِهَمَادٌ, † He stilled, or quieted. (Ḳ.)
He (God, and a man,) killed, or destroyed, a man, or men. (A.)
اهمد الأَمْرَ ‡ He put an end to the affair. (A.)
اهمد القَحْطُ الأَرْضَ ‡ Drought rendered the land sterile, so that it contained no herbage but such as was dried up and broken. (L.)
اهمد, (inf. n. إِهْمَادٌ, Ḳ.) † He kept silence in an unpleasant case. (L, Ḳ.)
اهمد, (Ṣ, L,) inf. n. إِهْمَادٌ, (L, Ḳ,) He remained, continued, stayed, abode, or dwelt, (Ṣ, L, Ḳ,) in a place: (Ṣ, L:) he was still; (Ḳ;) i. e., did not move. (TA.)

همِيدٌ
همِيدٌ ‡ Sheep or goats that have died: (L:) or the beasts or the like (مال) that are registered in the government-accounts as due from a man. (ISh, L, Ḳ.) You say, آخَذَنَا بِالْهَمِيدِ He (the collector) exacted from us taking for the sheep or goats that had died: (L:) or, taking what was registered as due from us in the governmentaccounts. (ISh, L.)
هَامِدٌ
هَامِدٌ andهَمِدٌ↓ andهَمِيدٌ↓ ‡ [In a state of death, or extinction]. (M, L.)
هَامِدٌ ‡ A garment, or piece of cloth, [dissundered and] wornout by being long folded, so as, when touched, to fall to pieces: (A:) or anything old and wornout: (L, Mṣb:) pl. هُمَّدٌ. (A.) See 1.
أَرْضٌ هَامِدَةٌ ‡ Land in which is no herbage: (Ṣ:) and in the same sense هَامِدٌ is applied to a place: (Ḳ:) or sterile land, (A, L,) the herbage of which is dried up and broken, (A,) or containing no herbage except what is dried up and broken: (L:) dry and dusty: pl. هَوَامِدُ. (L.)
هَامِدٌ ‡ Old and worn-out or wasted, blackened, and changed, [for the worse]. (Ḳ.)
