جَاحَ, (Ṣ, A,) aor. يَجُوحُ, (Ṣ,) inf. n. جَوْحٌ, (Ṣ, Ḳ,) He (a man, Ṣ) extirpated, or exterminated, (Ṣ, A, Ḳ,) a thing: (Ṣ:) He (God, Ṣ) destroyed (Ṣ, A, Ḳ) a man's property, or cattle, (Ṣ,) by what is termed جَائِحَة: (Ṣ, A:) as alsoاجاح↓, (Ṣ, A,) inf. n. إِجَاحَةٌ; (Ḳ;) andاجتاح↓, (Ṣ,) inf. n. اِجْتِيَاحٌ. (Ḳ.) You say [also], جَاحِتِ الآفَةُ المَالَ, i. e. الجَائِحَةُ, aor. تَجُوحُهُ, inf. n. as above; andاجاحتهُ↓; andاجتاحتهُ↓; The bane, or pest, or the like, destroyed the property, or cattle; as also جَاحَتْهُ, aor. تَجِيحُهُ, inf. n. جِيَاحَةٌ: (Mṣb:) and one says of anything, such as drought, or dearth, and civil war, or conflict and faction, &c., جاح المَالَ andاجتاحهُ↓, meaning it extirpated, or exterminated, the property, or cattle. (TA.) And جَاحَتْهُمُ الجَائِحَةُ, (Ṣ,) or السَّنَةُ, inf. n. جَوْحٌ and جِيَاحٌ; andأَجَاحَتْهُمْ↓; (TA;) andاِجْتَاحَتْهُمْ↓; (Ṣ, A, TA;) i. e. [The calamity, bane, pest, or the like, or drought, or dearth, destroyed or] extirpated [them, or] their property, or cattle.(TA.) Andاجتاح↓ العَدُوُّ مَالَهُ The enemy destroyed, or made an end of, his property, or cattle; syn. أَتَى عَلَيْهِ. (TA.)
Also جاح, aor. يَجُوحُ, inf. n. جَوْحٌ, He destroyed the property, or cattle, of his relations. (IAạr, TA.)

جَائِحٌ
جَائِحٌ [act. part. n. of 1]. You say آفَةٌ جَائِحَةٌ A destructive bane or pest or the like: (Mṣb:) and سَنَةٌ جَائِحَةٌ a year of drought or dearth or sterility: (Mgh:) pl. جَوَائِحُ. (Mgh, Mṣb.)

جَائِحَةٌ [fem. of جَائِحٌ, q. v.: and hence, as a subst.,] A bane, a pest, (Mṣb,) a calamity, or the like, (Ṣ, Mṣb, Ḳ,) or a great calamity, (Mgh, TA,) that destroys, or extirpates, men's property, or cattle; (Ṣ, Mgh, Mṣb,* Ḳ, TA;) as drought, or dearth; or civil war, or conflict and faction, and the like: (Ṣ, TA:) drought, or dearth, that destroys, or extirpates, men's property, or cattle; as alsoجَوْحَةٌ↓: (Wásil, TA:) or a calamity that befalls a man, and destroys all his property, or cattle: (AʼObeyd, T:) or severe drought or dearth, that destroys, or extirpates, men's property, or cattle: (ISh:) sometimes it is the effect of large hail; and sometimes, of excessive cold or heat: (T:) or (accord. to Esh-Sháfiʼee, Mgh, Mṣb) a blast, or blight, or calamity arising from the atmosphere, that destroys the fruits, (Mgh, Mṣb, TA,) or some thereof; (Mgh;) only relating to fruits: (TA:) pl. جَوَائِحُ. (A, Mgh, Mṣb.) It is said in a trad., أَمَرَ بِوَضْعِ الجَوَائِحِ, which is an elliptical phrase, meaning He commanded to remit the poor-rate in respect of things affected by a blast, or blight, (Mgh, Mṣb,) namely, property, (Mgh,) or fruits, (Mṣb,) so affected; (Mgh, Mṣb;) i. e., that no portion thereof, (Mgh,) or of the remains thereof, (Mṣb,) should be taken for the poor-rate. (Mgh, Mṣb.)
