غَرِثَ, aor. ـَ {يَغْرَثُ}, (Ṣ, A, O, Ḳ,) inf. n. غَرَثٌ, (Ṣ, O,) He hungered: (Ṣ, A, O, Ḳ:) or, as some say, in the slightest degree: and some say, vehemently. (TA.)

And accord. to Aboo-ʼAmr Esh-Sheybánee, one says, غَرِثُوا بِإِبِلِ فُلَانٍ, meaning They took the camels of such a one wrongfully: and a man says to another, وَيْلَكَ غَرِثْتَ بِى وَتَرَكْتَ حَقَّكَ [app. meaning Woe to thee: thou hast wronged me, and hast left, or neglected, thy right]. (O.)

غرّث, (Ṣ, A, O,) inf. n. تَغْرِيثٌ, (Ṣ, A, O, Ḳ,) He made hungry; made to hunger. (Ṣ, A, O, Ḳ.) You say, غرّث كِلَابَهُ He made his dogs hungry. (Ṣ, O.)

غَرْثَانُ Hungry: [or, accord. to some, in the slightest degree: and accord. to some, vehemently: (see the verb:)] you say قَوْمٌ غَرْثَى [using the fem., i. e. a hungry people or party], (Ṣ, A,* O, Ḳ,) and غَرَاثَى, (Ṣ, O, Ḳ,) and also with kesr to the ث [i. e. غَرَاثٍ] accord. to a copy of the Ṣ, (TA,) and غِرَاثٌ: (Ṣ, A, O, Ḳ:) the fem. is غَرْثَى; (Ṣ, A, O, Ḳ;) pl. غِرَاثٌ. (Ṣ, O, Ḳ.) And you say اِمْرَأَةٌ غَرْثَى الوِشَاحِ, meaning ‡ A woman slender in the waist: (Ṣ, A, O, Ḳ:) because she does not fill her وشاح [q. v.] which is therefore as though it were hungry.
