لَوَى عَلَيْهِ He waited for him. (Mṣb.)
مَرَّ لَا يَلْوِى عَلَى أَحَدٍ He went along, not pausing nor waiting for any one. (Mṣb.) See the Ḳur-án, iii. 147.
لَوَاهُ بِدَيْنِهِ i. q. مَطَلَهُ. (Ṣ, Mṣb, Ḳ.)
لَوَى He twisted a thing; turned or wreathed it round or about: contorted it: wound it: curled it: curved it: or bent it. (Ḳ, &c.) And He, or it, turned him from his course; made him to deviate, or swerve.
لَوَى عَلَيْهِ He went round it, or round about it. (Bḍ, in liii. 20.)
لَوَى عَلَيْهِ أَمْرَهُ [He mode his case, or affair, difficult and intricate to him: see إِلْتَوّى عَلَيْهِ]. (Ṣ, Ḳ, art. عوص.)
لَوَى خَبَرَهُ, † He concealed his information. (T, TA.) And لَوَى أَمْرَهُ عِنِّى ‡ He concealed his affair from me. (Ḳ, TA.)

أَلْوَى بِالكَلَامِ He distorted, wrested, or wrung, the language. (M, Ḳ.) [Hence, perhaps, فُلَانٌ يُلْوِى بِخَصْمِهِ, if the verb be correctly thus: see عُقْمِىَ, last sentence.]
5. ⇒ تلوّى
تَلَوَّى It twisted, or coiled, itself: (KL:) it became twisted, or coiled: one says, تَلَوَّتِ الحَيَّةُ. (MA.)
تَلَوَّى مِنْ وَجَعِ الضَّرْبِ [He writhed by reason of the pain of beating]. (M, A, Ḳ, art. ضور.)
6. ⇒ تلاوى ⇒ تلاوا
يَتَلاَوَيَانِ said of two serpents [They twist together]: see عَقاَمٌ, last sentence.
8. ⇒ التوى ⇒ التوا
اِلْتَوَى, neuter verb, It twisted: wound: bent. (Ḳ, &c.)
اِلْتَوَى عَلَيْهِ It (an affair) became difficult; or difficult and intricate. (TA.)
الْتَوَتْ عَلَىَّ حَاجَتِى My want became difficult of attainment. (TA.)
التوى عَلَيْهِ also He acted, or behaved, perversely towards him.
لِوَآءٌ
لِوَآءٌ A banner, or standard, syn. عَلَمٌ, (M, Mgh, Ḳ,) of a commander, (T,) or of an army, less than the رَايَة, being a strip of cloth, twisted, or wound, and tied to a spear-shaft. (Mgh.) See رِفَادَةٌ. Respecting the لِوَآء of the Kaabeh, see سَدَنَ and فَادَةٌ.

اللَّوَا
اللَّوَا occurs in poetry for اللَّوَاتِى. (TA in art. شرف.)
أَلْوَى
