نَخَبَ, (Ṣ, Ḳ,) aor. ـَ {يَنْخَبُ}, (Ṣ,) or ـُ, (Ḳ,) inf. n. نَخْب; (Ṣ, Ḳ;) andانتخب↓; (Ṣ;) He drew, or took, out, or forth: (Ṣ, Ḳ:) syn. of the latter verb انتزع, (Ṣ,) in a trans. sense. (TA.)

نَخَبَ, aor. ـَ {يَنْخَبُ} and ـُ {يَنْخُبُ}, (Ḳ,) inf. n. نَخْبٌ, (Ṣ, Ḳ,) Inivit feminam: (Ṣ, Ḳ:) so accord. to some, in an absolute sense: (ISd:) or inivit feminam peculiari quodam modo. (ISd, Ḳ.)

انخب (as also انجب, TA) He begot a cowardly son: (Ḳ:) from مَنْخُوبٌ. (TA.)

انخب He begot a brave, or courageous, son: (Ḳ:) from نُخَبَةٌ. (TA.) Thus the verb bears two contr. significations. (Ḳ.) See also انجب.

انتخبهُ [andتنخّبهُ↓, as is shown by a verse cited in art. سقب, conj. 4,] He chose, selected, or preferred, him, or it. (Ṣ, Ḳ.) Ex. انتخب مِنَ القَوْمِ مِائَة رَجُلٍ He chose, or selected, from the people a hundred men. (TA, from a trad.)

نَخْبٌ, (Ḳ,) orنَخْبَةٌ↓, (L, confirmed by the citation of two examples in verse,) andمَنْخَبَةٌ↓ (Ḳ) and يَنْخُوبَةٌ (L) The podex: syn. إِسْتٌ. (L, Ḳ.)

نَخِبٌ

نَخِبٌ (Ṣ, Ḳ) andنَخْبٌ↓ andنَخْبَةٌ↓ (so accord. to the TA: in the CK نُخْبَةٌ:) andنُخْبَةٌ↓ (in the CKنُخَبَةٌ↓) andنِخَبٌّ↓ andنِخِبٌّ↓ (Ḳ) andنَخِيبٌ↓ andمَنْخُوبٌ↓ andمُنْتَخَبٌ↓ (Ṣ, Ḳ) andيَنْخُوبٌ↓, (Ḳ,) to which the CK adds نَخَبٌ↓, A cowardly man; a coward; as though his heart were drawn out; (Ṣ;) i. e., having no heart. (TA.) قَلْبٌ نَخِيبٌ↓ [A cowardly heart]: نخيب signifies a coward, who has no heart: or, accord. to some, one who acts corruptly. (TA.) Pl. (ofنخيب↓, TA,) نُخُبٌ: (Ḳ:) of منخوب↓, مَنْخُوبُونَ, and sometimes, in poetry, accord. to IAth, مَنَاخِبُ: and Aboo-Bekr mentions نخبات as a pl. of نخبة. (TA.)

نَخْبَةُ نَمْلَةٍ, and نَجْبَةُ نملة, q. v., A bite of an ant. Both these modes of writing the word are mentioned by IAth on the authority of Z.

نُخَبَةٌ

نُخَبَةٌ (Aṣ, Ṣ, Ḳ) andنُخْبَةٌ↓ (AM, Ḳ), the former the more approved word, (TA,) Chosen; choice; select; preferred; excellent; best: or what is chosen, &c.: (Ḳ:) i. q. نُجَبَةٌ, q. v.: (Ṣ:) pl. of the former نُخَبٌ. (Ṣ.) Ex. جَاءَ فى نُخَبِ أَصْحَابِهِ He came with the best of his companions. (Ṣ.) نخبةُ المَتَاعِ The choice part of the goods, or utensils, &c.; what was drawn, or taken, out from them. (TA.)

A company, or troop, chosen, or selected, and drawn out, from the men. Ex., from a trad., خَرَجْنَا فِى النُّخَبَةِ We went forth with the chosen band. (TA.)
