هَتَأَ, aor. ـَ {يَهْتَأُ}, (Ḳ,) inf. n. هَتْءٌ, (TA,) He beat a person (Ḳ) with a staff or stick. (TA.)

مَضَى مِنَ اللَّيْلِ هَتْءٌ, andهِتْءٌ↓, (ISk, Ḳ,) andهَتِىْءٌ↓, (Lḥ, Ḳ,) andهَتِىٌّ↓, (Lḥ,) andهِتَاءٌ↓, andهِيتِئٌ↓ (same measure as زِبْرِجٌ, as in the TA), orهِتْيَآءٌ↓, (as in the CK and a MṢ. copy) andهِيتَآءٌ↓, (Ḳ,) andهَتْأَةٌ↓, (AHeyth, Ḳ,) A portion of the night elapsed (Ḳ, &c.)

مَا بَقِىَ مِنْ غَنَمِهِمْ إِلَّا هِتْءٌ There remained not, of their sheep, or goats, save a part, less than the part that had gone away. (TA.)
